WIND SITE EVALUATION

this FORM back to ETM.

You need to have wind to make installing a wind generator worth-while. Wind is very site-specific.
To receive the NYSERDA incentive, your site must have at least 11 mph average wind speed according to the AWS Truewind map.
See www.awstruewind.com

FAIR WARNING
Most sites in NY DO NOT have sufficient wind resources below 100 feet. This makes putting up a small
wind turbine somewhat impractical. For example, there has been a lot of interest in 1 to 3 kW turbines.
If you put a small turbine on a tall tower, it will work great. Problem is, the tower then costs more than
the turbine!

In addition, the overhead costs associated with paperwork for permitting and incentives ends up
being a significant percentage of the cost of a small wind system.

Therefore, we recommend that you consider wind only if
1) Your Town will allow 100 feet or taller tower,
2) Your energy use is 8000 to 25000 kWh per year.

Then, a 10 kW Bergey or 20 kW Jacobs would be just the thing!

Your yearly energy use (kilowatt-hours, kWh), call your utility or look it up on their website.
To size a system and apply for incentives, we MUST have this number: ____________________ kWh PER YEAR

Go out into your yard:

Is there a spot at least 150' from your house where we could put a wind tower?

Is this spot at least 100' in diameter?

Do you have at least 1 acre of land? (NYSERDA requirement)

Can you see for miles and miles in one direction from this spot?

If you can see for miles, in which direction? N, S, E, W, NW, SW, NE, SE?

We need to know the logitude, latitude coordinants of the site where the turbine would be installed.
Send a survey map, Google Earth photo or topo map with the site marked.

Please send photos of the site if at all possible.

PENNSYLVANIA and NEW JERSEY: Net metering of wind is ALLOWED.

NEW YORK: Net metering of wind is ALLOWED up to 25 kW for residences and 125 kW for farms.
